10 Easy Bedroom Decor Ideas That Actually Work
Has it ever happened that you walk into your bedroom but you don’t feel anything? Just a plain place to sleep, without any friendly atmosphere? I’ve definitely been there. I never treated this area as a priority when decorating, until I saw that it was the only area in my place that didn’t give me joy. That’s when everything changed.
In this article, I talk about 10 simple ways to decorate your bedroom that really improved how my bedroom looks and feels. Hopefully, these tips will show you how to make your bedroom a comfortable place no matter its size or if you just want a change.
Let’s Start with What Made the Biggest Impact
1. Add a Statement Wall
I chose a deep sage green for one of the walls and the room became both stable and peaceful right away. It worked wonderfully with my wooden bed and neutral bedding. This one change completely shifted the mood.
2. Layer Your Lighting
Having only my overhead light was fine until I added a bedside lamp and string lights which made things feel much warmer. Saying a smart home phrase to the lights now means I can change the mood or brightness as I like which has been so helpful.
3. Upgrade Your Bedding
Using linen duvet and cotton sheets instead of old polyester sheets turned my room into a mini boutique hotel. You can’t really know how soft, breathable and luxurious it is until you try it out for yourself.
4. Bring in Texture with Rugs
I layered a textured area rug below the carpet in my bedroom which made the area under my bed stand out as a comfortable zone. I chose a yarn that’s a mix of jute and wool which looks lovely and is very natural.
5. Mix in Natural Elements
Plants, a wooden nightstand and a woven basket gave my room a warmer and livelier atmosphere. Waking up in an environment full of nature and plants is especially tranquil.
6. Personalize with Art and Photos
I put up a little gallery of prints and old Polaroid pictures above my dresser. It instantly made the space feel like mine. I put up a postcard from my trip with my best friend in a frame.
7. Declutter Visible Surfaces
After clearing the tops of the dresser and nightstand, my bedroom looked a lot neater. Instead of scattered items, I organized everything in trays and baskets and finally the space felt fresh to me.
8. Add Curtains or Sheers
Sheer curtains are now installed where the old blinds were and it made a huge improvement. Sunlight streams into the room in the morning which makes it more enjoyable to wake up.
9. Try a New Furniture Layout
One night I just dragged my bed to the other side of the room to see what would happen and I was stunned by what happened. It turned my room into a more open space that gives me more space to work. Don’t be afraid to experiment!
10. Add a Scent You Love
Adding a diffuser with lavender and cedarwood absolutely changed the way I feel in my home. It’s now my wind-down haven.
